Amy Kim

Amy is a faculty member and gallery director in the University of Texas Permian Basin’s Department of Arts. She holds an MFA in photography from Texas Tech University’s School of Art and an MFA in Arts Administration from Texas Tech’s School of Theatre and Dance.

She has exhibited at the CICA museum in Seoul, South Korea, in Ping-yao, China, and across the US. Her book chapter “Photographic Arts and Fake News” was published in Teaching About Fake News published by the Association of College and Research Libraries (2021). Her current project Wolfcamp Catalogue, responding to the Texas oil industry, won the Texas Photographic Society’s National Photography Award.

A solo exhibition of the same tile opens in October 2022 in conjunction with Houston’s Fotofest Biennale. She won the Spring 2022 Innovate Art Grant. “The CaribBasin Recipe Cards,” a title for both the artwork and its chapter, is scheduled to appear in an edited volume Nourish and Resist: Food and Feminism in Global Contemporary Art of the Caribbeancurrently under contract with Yale University Press.

She presented this chapter at Association for Cultural Heritage Studies (ACHS), in Santiago, Chile. An American-born Korean, Amy has lived in Michigan, South Korea, France, and Texas. 2023.
