Hilton McLaurin
Hilton grew up in Gaines County, Texas on the South Plains working on farms in the area and going to school. He graduated from Seminole High School in 1971, then went to South Plains College in Levelland, Texas. A year later he moved to East Texas State in Commerce, Texas where he met his wife Barbie.
They moved back to West Texas where he attended Texas Tech University and worked various jobs. He eventually started his own business doing heraldic art printed on gift items, which led to sculpting and casting pewter heraldic jewelry.
In 1997 he sold the heraldic business to a Canadian company and began painting with acrylics and oils on canvas, like his mom, uncles and grandmother who painted their whole lives.
“My primary subject is the landscape of the great Southwest United States. I started this journey with instruction from William Hook and Albert Handell, from them I learned about the dedication required to be a successful fine artist.” -Hilton McLaurin
